First Deluge of the Year

20130421_125918One of Graham’s favorite expressions these days is “soaking wet!” When a train falls off the wooden track: “Soaking wet!” When he notices a open kitchen cabinet that in his mind should be closed: “Soaking wet!” When he unlocks a new hoverboard in Subway Surfer: “Soaking wet!”  And sometimes for no apparent reason at all: “Soaking wet!” Well, he got to live it last weekend.

When it started raining Sunday afternoon we were thankful we had passed on a trip to the park and hoped our friends who took the subway weren’t caught off guard by flash floods. At first it was raining just enough to make our car even dirtier than it already was. Then the sky opened up (un palazo de agua, as they say here) and I knew we had to get into it. The reasoning was two-fold. First, I had been talking with a buddy about how I was missing authentic experiences in nature. Secondly, it was an opportunity for a really easy car-wash. And so we dashed outside with a couple rags. We couldn’t have made a better decision. I was refreshed and happy for the rest of the day.
