A major part of the political action this past week came in the form of a sound war. Capriles asked his supporters to perform a cacerolazo, a traditional Venezuelan protest where the people bang pots and pans, from 8-9pm each night, whereas Maduro asked his supporters to shoot off fireworks and play music super loudly to drown out the cacerolazo.
Cacerolazo sound clip from our neighborhood.
The first two nights Graham watched and even participated a little.
But by the third and fourth night he had learned to fall asleep during the commotion.
Here are some pictures courtesy of Nadjib — he has captured an excellent representation of our neighbors who gathered each night.
Definitely seems like a whole different realm. Noise contest between candidates? I wonder what that would be like in the US.
