Whereas last year we went to Puerto Rico for Carnaval, this year we, as well as the majority of the faculty, stayed in Venezuela. It’s just so pricey to get tickets out of the country these days.
We were lucky to have secured domestic flights to the Orinoco River Delta — one of Venezuela’s top tourist destinations. There we were able to witness the lifestyle of the indigenous Warao people, ride around in boats, hike in the swampy jungle, fish for piranhas, and see all sorts of neat wildlife.
