First, thanks for the positive thoughts you all sent through the ether as I underwent knee surgery. Doctor says it went well and the pain is not so bad. He seems to think I have a good chance at a full recovery.
After a couple days on the couch, reading and grading student work, I’m ready to go back to school. The main reason is that I simply abhor writing sub plans and then picking up the pieces afterward. We have three weeks until the last day of school, so there is no room to just let the sub babysit with a movie. And when it comes down to it, sitting at school all day with my leg up is about the same as sitting at home all day. I have arranged for a colleague to pick me up in the morning and drop me nearly to the door of my new temporary classroom and if I bring a lunch that I can eat in the room, viola!
And now when a student has a problem I will authoritatively beckon them hither with a wave of the hand. Perhaps I’ll even enlist a few to transform my chair into a throne and fabricate an ornate foot pillow. My crutch will be my scepter. Huzzah!
Make sure you have thought through your bathroom breaks!
