School Garden

Many know that I couldn’t teach at a school without an opportunity to garden. The middle school science teachers and I have put the kids to work building a garden and we finally have some life. It’s been a long process with ordering and shipping and budgeting and planning, but the basics have come together. It’s difficult to find good soil in the tropics so we’re hoping that the organic liquid humus probiotics that we found at the nursery ($7/gal compared to $50 in the states) will kick start the soil building process.

We’re waiting on maintenance to install a tap for our soaker hose irrigation system, so until then we will water by hand. But that’s cool cause Graham loves to help with that.

We have planted cucumbers, a variety of gourds and squash, peppers, eggplant, herbs, radishes and more. Overall, I’m excited to see what is possible with an infinite growing season.
